This always happens to the Newbies. If the brake (and clutch fluid on 5-speeds) is not changed every 2 years or if it looks like dark varnish with little bits floating in it, you WILL be rebuilding these systems because the brake fluid is going to eat the systems up from the inside out. English cars seem to be especially sensitive to old brake fluid. They are also particular about the type. Castrol GTLMA DOT 4 is the only one recomended. As soon as you buy an old, used car the owner should replace ALL of the fluids unless he KNOWS it has been done recently and with the correct ones!
