Good luck on finding a black snap panel. As far as the mirror goes, it is held tight by a snap ring holding a stack of compression washers tight. Look inside the hole that the black snap panel covered up. If the snap ring popped off,the mirror wiggles around like you have described. Locate the snap ring, compress the washers, and reinstall snap ring... easier said than done. You probably should get a new snap ring. On a side note... if you ever paint your D and paint the mirror housings, the added thickness of the paint may force you to have to remove one of those compression washers.
