Re: [DML] Steering Wheel overhaul

Bart,

You need to contact American-Stitches.com in Texas. They will strip your wheel down and recover it so it looks exactly like new. They did my wheel a few years ago. I think it ran $250-$300. The craftsmanship was worth the price. Many D owners have commented on how great it looks. I asked them to put a little bit extra cushion in the wheel too, for a better grip. They can customize it any way you want with new colors, they can add wood, carbon fiber, etc. They will even call you back and ask what kind of stitching you want them to use - either OEM (I think it's a Basting Stitch), or other options depending on the look you want.

If you can't stomach that price, you may be able to find a used wheel for less. I don't think there are any more OEM new ones. At least 3 years later, my wheel still looks brand-new.

Subject: [DML] Steering Wheel overhaul

Group,

I am a relatively new D owner (since last year) and am making some updates to
the car. I'm getting a new starter, coils, plugs, wires, distributor cap, relay
kit, door seals, etc. That should put me in pretty good shape mechanically.
However, there are some cosmetic issues I'd like to get addressed. One of those
is the steering wheel. My steering wheel is coming apart at the seams quite
literally. I'd like to get it repaired.

So then the question: Does anyone have any experience with a steering wheel
overhaul? I've seen covers that folks claim fit a DeLorean but the pictures
don't look like they do a very good job. Any thoughts on the best way to go
about this or the best person to contact?

Thanks,

-Bart
