You are correct in starting with a through cleaning beginning on the outside and then progressing underneath and then inside. Dry the car completely. Take notes as you work noting missing parts, broken parts, leaks, etc. Replace the door seals, all the fluids, the filters, and so on. Your first order should include 2 oil filters, (one for now and another for later) a set of manuals, door seals, a blending pad, air filter, fuel filter, and inspect the fuel tank and replace any deteriorated or missing parts inside by the fuel pump. Since you have a very early car you will need to verify that all of the recalls have been done. If not, you will have to order the parts and do them. This will only get you started! Once you get this stuff done and start driving the car THEN you will begin to see what it REALLY needs! Keep lists so you can keep track of what you will need and what has to be done. Prioritize in order of reliablity and safety, leaving cosmetic items for later. Plan a budget and keep things realistic. If the tires are over 10 years old or worn don't drive on them much and replace them quickly. I think it may be due to the shoddy, dryrotted rubber. Fortunately the torsion bars and door struts are great!!! When I shut either door it won't shut tight and I'm not about to slam it! The door latch next to the seats is a little marred where the doors do not hit the latch even. > > Also, the engine runs great, but I need an air filter and want to drain the fluids and replace them with fresh fluids.
