I have two cars and have replace both radios. I did buy one replacement panels and kept one original. As for the connector. The modern radios come with a connector that mates with the one in the car, but the pin outs are different. It is very easy to remove the pins on one of the connectors and re-order them (your choice, new radio or old). No need to buy the "adapter" which appears regularly on eBay.
