UPDATE Mark's right, there's a short somewhere. The most benign place is in the wire itself. Perhaps there's a bare spot worn in the red wire that goes to the clutch. Look around, especially near where the wire dives down between the compressor body and the clutch. Failing that, you will need to replace the clutch, at least. We don't sell compressor clutches by themselves, but rather complete compressor/clutch assemblies for $195 outright. You get a new, late style accumulator and orfice tube with. It's the best deal we got.
