What happens when there is a sudden loss of coolant when it is over the boiling point (at atmospheric pressure) and under pressure as in a car's cooling system, much of it flashes into steam. Since the Delorean's cooling system is pressurized (up to 15 PSI) and the coolant gets to over 212 degrees F, when the coolant comes out from a large leak you get a cloud of steam. Everyone on the 1st Fall Tour in Rhode Island got to see that first-hand. A line of Deloreans got stuck in traffic in downtown Providance and one of them blew the left tank off the radiator. No one could miss THAT cloud of steam! By the time you might look at a gauge or warning light it would all be over! I am sure the same kind of thing would happen if you blew out the otterstadt. If you are that concerned about it just put a strap-tie on it right now. Preventitive maintaince is always better than getting stuck. If you had a warning light go on it is already too late. You are getting stuck. BTW the "best" insurance is to do your preventive maintaince. Replace the hoses if they are over 10 years old. If you still have the origional radiator you should consider replacing it, ditto for the water pump. Go take a flash light, jack up the car, and look inside the fan shroud and along the edges of the tanks on both sides. If you see green stains, and you will, no light or gauge is going to help you! That header bottle is another thing that is going to explode. Get the metal tank. If you don't take car of the car it WILL let you down, David Teitelbaum vin 10757 --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "conundrum1984" <jeepno1_397@...> wrote: > > --- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "David Teitelbaum" <jtrealty@> > wrote:BTW if you > > did experience a sudden drop in coolant pressure you would know! > There > > would be a big white cloud shooting out of the car!!!!! > > David Teitelbaum > > vin 10757 > > What if your otterstat blew out? > > M To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx For more info on the list, tech articles, cars for sale see www.dmcnews.com To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews Yahoo!
