Your A/C symptoms can be caused by one of the following: Overcharge and the high limit is shutting you down Undercharge and the low limit is shutting you down Moisture in the system and it freezes shutting you down The cure is pretty much the same for all 3. Have a shop remove the refrigerent, vacuum out the system, and measure a fill back in. If very contaminated you should replace the accumulator. That wire you are reffering to is probably the wire going down the side of the motor to the low oil pressure sensor. If you ground it (or the sensor does) it should light the low oil pressure light. The sensor is located on the left rear of the motor. You can see it from under the car.
