It's highly variable and depends on the car.

If you buy a cheap one that hasn't been driven, it will probably be a
maintenance nightmare. If you buy one that has most of it's parts
replaced and has been driven at least semi-regularly, you'll be fine.

They are every bit as reliable as any other car, the problem lies with
them being 25 years old. 25 year old parts tend to rot and break.

I drive my DeLorean every day and don't have problems (to speak of;
there have been issues, but nothing you wouldn't find on any other
car). Then again, I've replaced a majority of the parts in most of the
car's systems.
