Most of the time problems like this turn out to be a bad connection somewhere. More often then not, it is a ground. It can also be a bad or incorrect belt. If the belt is riding on the bottom of the pulley it will slip no matter how tight you make it. Measure the outut voltage at the alternator when the lights dim. If it is not dropping there you need to do voltage drop measurements to find out where the problem is.
