Alistair This is perfectly normal. This is how the A/C should work regardless of the refrigerant used. The clicking you hear is the cooling fan relay and it clicks when the A/C compressor comes on to provide cooling for the condenser. The 'on' time will be longer when the weather gets hotter and shorter when cold. Off time will be exactly the opposite - long when cold and short when hot.
