Marc, You're right that the fuse should be as close to the battery as possible to protect as much of the circuit as possible. I simply put it just before the switch itself because that was easier and it will protect the switch itself which of course is the whole idea. I'll try to figure a way to trace it back and let you know. I bet there is someone out there that has a harness out of the car that could figure it out easier....
