With all the trips we take in our DeLorean we have it figured out that the trunk will only hold two days of luggage. If the trip will be longer than we pack the hard sided American Touristor and strap it onto the luggage carrier. I've never had any problems with engine heat, rain on the other hand will seep in to the suitcase. I think DMCH had a set of suitcases that would fit nicely onto the luggage rack. As far as drilling the holes, just make sure you have a new sharp drill bit. Remember, measure twice, drill once.
