Being a fairly new owner myself, I cannot comment on all the issues, 
but I can suggest a couple of quick looks. 
First, my door lights did not come on either until I played with the 
switches in the doors (they were stuck) and now work OK most of the 
time. Sometimes they still bind in the "in" position.
Second, the rattleting sound may be your catalitic converter. I had 
the same problem and the baffleing had broke down and come loose. 
Lightly tap on the converter and listen if anything shakes if so you 
need to replace.
Third, unless you are going to use it as a daily driver, there is no 
need to inspect in MD if you get historic tags. It is a much cheaper 
solution. Look in previous postings for more info on that. Good luck
