I have had success with repair kits for the orifice tube. http://www.acsource.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=271 This is what they look like. I don't remember the tube sizes. The ones I used were GM CCOT types that were the same size as the DeLorean fittings. The hardest issue is cutting the old orifice tube receiver off the evaporator - it takes a tube cutter that is in good condition to do the job right. I've done three; two worked beautifully, the other one had just too much damage to the evaporator tube (dented) to hold a seal. This might be worth trying before removing the evaporator. You will know if the seal is going to hold when you put the vacuum to it. I had the bright idea to drill up the middle and pull it out but went a little too far and drilled into and through the evaporator pipe.
