Really sounds like your mode switch to me and the little maze inside that directs the vaccumm to the relevant flaps. Take this mode switch out and carefully disassemble / check. You will probably find the maze inside is just spinning and not seated properly any more ( mine had the little locator lugs on the rear snapped off). Clean, restick maze in the right orientation ie to line up with the missing locator tabs , silicone grease it up and carefully reasemble. You can buy new repair lits from you favorite vender.
