B28 and B280 are very different engines. B28 is odd fire, B280 is even fire. B28 is reportedly smaller displacement, although I have seen B280 spec'd at 2.849 liters as well. Irrespective, intake ports are different diameters. Whole intake manifold is different for that matter (LH Jetronic versus K Jet). Distributor cam gear is on the other side. Stock compression ratios are higher. Main bearings are reportedly different. I do believe the main block castings are identical, however (in fact are identical to B27).
