Forgot to mention: I don't think the wiring harnesses are supposed to pass under the bracket that holds the shift boot cover/switches bezel. The problem is: without some sort of restraint they have a tendency to fall out on either side of the console (that's why I was routing mine under the bracket). After repairing the damage caused by a piercing trim screw, I added two staps 1/3 and 2/3 of the way along the center spine to hold everything up top, and routed the harnesses safely on the outside of that bracket. Makes installing those two nuts rather obnoxious, but better than a short circuit.
