Overall wire gauge is too small. Some fused circuits, such as #8, are badly designed (a catch-all for everything that was left?) and "normally" operate at the limits of safety. Unfused headlight switch is just plain negligent. DeLorean electrical systems are salvageable, but far from optimal as they left the factory. Even devices that may never actually burst into flame, such as A/C panel bulbs, still cause damage to the vehicles. I have personal experience with several other contemporary marques that suffer no such electrical maladies, and remain in daily service with none of the component attention and replacement required by a DeLorean. Yes it has a few problems but some of them are self induced.....I don't know of any mass market car manufactures of that time will make a bullet proof wiring system.
