I found the manufacturer's name in an archived post after the original message was sent. Moderator was nice enough to cut & paste it in. I'm just glad I didn't have to lay in the driveway in the rain to find it! I could swear my gears are metal, not plastic. After the weather breaks I'll verify that (have been mistaken about my little silver car before...) Was your spindle cable wound with normal left wheel rotation or against it? Mine is wound the wrong way, which caused it to unwind rather catastrophically at 80 mph. When the repair was spliced in, I ran solder all the way down into the housing to prevent future unwinding. The remaining original cable is now just a stub (with a square receiver on the end) so it doesn't need to flex to install around the lower control arm & spring. A solid shaft (square ended), permanently attached to the wheel disc, is inserted straight from the outside. Works excellently so far... Also, was your lubrication hole right side up or upside down? Mine points towards the pavement. Bill Robertson #5939 >--- In dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "John Hervey" <john@xxxx> wrote: > Smith Motors was the original.
