Nothing at all wrong with a silicone seal. Problem is people usually install totally incorrectly. Requires *TWO* torquings. People usually run a bead then torque to final setting. That not only squishes silicone into places you don't want it to go (inside transmission pan for example), but leaves nothing but a thin film between mating surfaces. To make a silicone seal: -run bead -*GENTLY* torque (just enough to evenly distribute silicone between mating surfaces) -let it set overnight -torque to final spec You'll end up with a custom synthetic gasket. BTW: I recommend high temp orange silicone over the blue stuff.
