I had the same reactions pretty much, from MY first car show a few years ago. I have had mine going on 7 years and entered one accidentally the first year....we drove 30 miles to an annual all cars show, however we ALWAYS attended this and had no idea of participating......we were early and parked outside the entrance. As we drove up, they motioned us to go inside, we shook our heads and kept walking......several of the head guys followed us and tried to talk us into bringing the car in. I told them it was not even washed, let alone detailed and we had to leave early......but they insisted and said they would waive the entrance fee. We finally gave up. Parked the car in a spot they made for us in the middle of one of the street intersections all by itself!! I went over it quickly with my California duster and that was about IT as to preparations. I had a guilty conscience and went and paid the fee for display. I didn't even know what category it should be in......they told me "Original Unrestored". There ended up being 82 cars in that class.......This is a farming community and I think half the farmers had a rusty hulk behind the barn and got it running and brought it n to the show. There were about 350 cars in the show. Main street was blocked off for it. We had our lawn chairs along and set them out on the sidewalk nearby.....we were just amazed at the attention it got......at first I left the doors down and when I decided to open them, they just came running...my wife was counting spectators from time to time and at one time counted 21 looking AT the car and many more around it...at the same time the beautiful Corvettes that had mirrors under them and had been beautifully restored were getting 3 or 4 people at a time....it stayed that way the entire show....I had kind of a guilty conscience as, after all, the only thing I had done was to buy the car and they had worked forever on theirs! We were shocked when we were given the first place trophy. I guess it is needless to say that ours was the only DeLorean there. We have entered several shows of the same type and about the same number of cars and always won a trophy...not always first though!! We have NEVER objected to fingerprints or people asking to sit in the car to have their picture taken. I have even taken some myself and mailed copies toi them. I had a man in a late Honda NSX next to us one year, ask me if I cared if he wiped off the fingerprints as he saw them!!! I told him I just would wait until I got home, but he was tickled pink to do this....We sure enjoyed participating and meeting other car fans. BTW, we purchased the car from the original owner with 3K miles on it and now have 8K so it still presents a good "image" to people. Murray Vin: 05962 Lic: DMC-XII
