Louie, Are there really that many heavily modified DeLoreans out there? Most of the ones I see may be changed to include a CD changer, bra, and other common alterations that most people will do to their cars, regardless of the make. It seems to me that any permanant modifications are extremely rare. Every now and then you'll see a painted one, there's the single monster truck, that red one with the shag carpeting I've seen on the DMCNews website... a convertable, tow truck, and BTTF replicas are out there. Of course these oddities will stand out to the general public; every car in the line looks nearly identical to people who don't know them. Realistically though, they've always been a joke to naysayers. From Robin Williams making a crack on his "Live At The Met" video about the owner of the DeLorean whose rebate was in the trunk, Back To The Future, The Wedding Singer, and even The Simpsons (Troy McClure's mode of transport). These are examples of how the media perceives these cars (I expect that BTTF was the most favourable of all). It's all of the media attention that they've been given since their initial release. We as enthusiasts or owners take these cars very seriously, because we've been struck by the bug; it is our belief that the DeLorean is the coolest car on the planet (or certainly up there). I don't think it very likely that we'll be able to change that public perception. To the rest of the world, they're a curiosity... like the Bricklyn and Edsel... Something odd that may pass you on the highway, I missed Monster Garage the other night, but will catch it over the weekend.. it's terrible that they destroyed a car (they could have given it to me instead.. I'd give it a good home), but they were continuing the tradition of lampooning it... I'm with you, in that I take these cars seriously, but I wouldn't expect the world to share in my awe for these cars. So.. if you want to blame someone... blame the British government, Hollywood, or JZD, but don't blame the people who feel that since they own the car, they can change it. (I wouldn't dream of it, beyond putting in a decent stereo, but that's me). Just my two cents. Here's my opinions on the show, and the rash of heavily altered cars that have come down the pipeline these last couple of years. I agree with Aaron... the show was insulting to our marque. I agree with Rich W. that all of these modified cars bring attention to the DeLorean, and they may possibly stir interest in a car that has been dead for more than two decades. But here's the catch 22- the fact that people are making DeLoreans into hover crafts, monster trucks, convertibles and the like makes the marque even more of a joke to naysayers. > > I'm going to go back to the tired example of my Dad's 1969 Mustang "Boss 302." There was a limited run of these special cars from 1969-1970. During this time roughly the same amount of Boss 302's were made as there were DeLoreans were made. Have I ever seen anyone hack a Boss into a convertible? A monster truck? A hover craft? I think not. If we want the world to take our cars seriously, we've got to stop doing these absolutely retarded things to the cars. It's getting attention in all the wrong ways. It just continues the legacy that the DeLorean is a joke car. > > So how about instead of hacking DeLoreans publicly and making a fool of the marque, let's get someone to probe interest in the several car restoration shows that appear on the Speed Channel and TNN. There are great shows like "Dream Car Garage" and a few others. Or try and field interest for Dennis Gage to do a section on someone's concourse DeLorean for "My Classic Car." > > Louie Golden > > > --- "Aaron Crocco" <Slider_ten@xxxx> wrote: > Wow, I just finished watching Monster Garage.
