As a computer scientist, I would recommend that you stick to HTML/CSS for you website. Use as little Javascript as possible as not all browsers do the same thing with it. If you use Javascript, attempt to stay with the ECMAscript subset, and try to make the site render in a sane way if the Javascript does not run.
