Dale, I would offer that even if the temperature while running normally is OK, that what happens when a cat goes bad (glows red hot), is enough to do something extra to protect your aluminum engine block, which is less than two inches away, from that kind of heat. Warren told me the same, but it didn't sit well with me. After trying to find a suitable replacement, I decided on wrapping with exhaust system wrap. Matter of fact, I did the whole system while I had it out. Looks good, oughta add a couple horse, and will channel the heat away from the top of the tranny and sides of the aluminum block.
