This was covered on "Tob Gear" on Sunday - the reason for the cease in production was cited as the dwindling number of new gearboxes, which are "from the Renault 25". Not precisely the same, but extremely similar to the DeLorean's. Let's hope they don't twig that there's a large number of brand new Renault tansmissions sitting in a warehouse in Houston, Texas.... Another interesting statistic is that in 27 years of production, Lotus have produced 10,000 Esprits. In 2 years of production, DMC produced 8,500 DeLoreans using a very similar process... The Esprit is also renowned for its awful reliability, though is still very much an enthusiast's car www.espritfactfile.com (a US site too!) As one DeLorean related car re-enters the market, another one disappears. Lotus says it's only for a few years, but for now this will be the final production year for the Esprit. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/01/03/1041196774591.html
