YES. If you remove any of the AC lines, all of the Freon will be lost!! If your running R12, this could prove to be a EXPENSIVE mistake. Take the car to a trusted AC mechanic, and have them "recover" the Freon for you first. After your work is done, you should quickly evacuate the system of air(leaving air in the system for an extended period of time will damage the dryer) and then bring the car back to the shop to have your Freon replaced. When choosing a shop, use one that tests all Freon! Most of the AC shops Ihave seen do not test systems before evacuating them and as a result contaminate their storage unit... which then contaminates all of the systems they pump the stuff back in to. Moral of the story: Don't remove the AC lines unless you have to. I removed the engine from #06068 without disturbing the AC lines. The only time Ithink you would need to open the AC system is to actually work on the AC! > -----Original Message----- > From: Soma576@xxxx [mailto:Soma576@xxxx] > Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2002 8:14 PM > To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [DML] simple A/C compressor question > > <SNIP> > if i remove the A/C compressor lines from the compressor, do > i need to > evacuate the system first? i would think there should be > some kind of valve > that would allow you to remove the lines from the back of the > comp for > compressor service. i want to get that thing out of the way > so i can take > the DS valve cover off.
