No, your cylinder isn't worn. Well,it may be, but the key working that way doesn't necessarily mean it is worn. It you examined the key there are probably five or six bits (cuts) that are the same and in the same position. Only those bits are used, the rest are superfluous for that particular lock and are used in other locks on the car. I do some locksmith tinkering... I bought a mess of the volvo blanks and am (but haven't in a while) making a set of depth gauges so that I can cut keys back to original depths. It probably would be easier to just pull my headliner and see if I have my key-code and go to a fully stocked locksmith... but even then, he may not be able to help everyone, which is what I would like to be able to do. -Kevin #4687 Houston -----Original Message----- From: Payne [mailto:bpayne@xxxx] Sent: Saturday, June 15, 2002 7:13 PM To: dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [DML] Key Copies My local locksmith was easily able to make a copy of my door key (2-key system). He just used a Volvo Key blank and it worked perfectly. However he cut both sides of the key exactly the same and it still works. My original door key is cut differently on either side but still works no matter which side of the key I have up. Does this just mean I have a badly worn lock cylinder? payne #2975 > Has anyone found a place that makes delorean key copies? > I tried HomeDepot and Ace Hardware and both places don't have the > right machine to make a delorean key.
