First reason has to be that it's truly unique. Added to that, it's affordable and unique. Most truly unique cars tend to be out of the price range of the average car owner. It's a fun car, it's a car that you drive, not one that you ride in. It's not easy to get in and out of, the clutch pedal is stiff, the steering is stiff, the shifting (at least in the case of reverse) is stiff, the pedals are not of a good size nor a good relationship to each other, rear visibility is not all that great, the side windows would be a joke in any other car. It has a feel, it keeps you alert in that it doesn't ride, shift, steer, sound, or respond like other cars. You seldom forget that you are driving something special. You expect other drivers to be envious and marvel that they can hide their feelings that well. Lots of cars will carry you from point to point, with many interesting variables, but in a DeLorean it's an event.
