[DML] Re: a/c pulley bearings bad design

Thanks to David Teitelbaum & John Hervey for clearing this up. The bearing
that went bad was one that came from PJ Grady via DMC Joe. It has a black
seal and says it is made in China. Also it has the word PEER and the model
number 6202RS. So it sounds like I have what you are warning not to use.

I can say that over-tightening my belt was certainly not the problem.
Whenever the belt got a little wet or when cold the belt would slip a little
on hard acceleration. I could also reach in there and easily turn the
pulleys by hand.

When at the last SEDOC meet, I saw on the PJ Grady table a new set of
pulleys made of gold anodized aluminum which match the color of the pulley
on the PJ Grady water pump. Can anyone say if there is an advantage to
using an aluminum pulley? Like maybe better heat dispersion?

I still intend to come up with a better heat shield design. I'm thinking
about using two sheets of stainless steel or aluminum separated by a small
air space. The rear-most sheet would come down a little lower and curve
forward at the bottom to make an air scoop.

I'm also thinking about coming up with a rear fascia extension that would
bolt to where the bottom of the fascia bolts and then curve forward to the
bottom of the frame. The idea is to make a cosmetic improvement. Whenever
riding behind a DeLorean, I see too much of the frame, oil pan & exhaust
system. I realize that anything like this could restrict air movement too
much, but I'm thinking about making something out of mesh or perforated (or
slotted) stainless steel. Clips could bolt it to the tow hooks on the frame
and make the modification completely reversible. Comments anyone?
