Hi Paul, this is the lambda-counter, it activates the lambda-light in the dashboard every 30000 miles to remind you to change or test the lambda-sond (then you have to reset the counter). If you have no catalytic converter, you don`t need it. I have some custom made one-piece speedo-cables in stock, they connect the speedo angle drive direct to the speedometer without connecting the lambda-counter.
