The only problem I've heard of regarding the timing chains is related to the tensioners. They're hydraulic in that oil pressure keeps them tense. There's a small plastic filter screen in the orifice that feeds the oil to the tensioner and a severely overheated engine can melt the plastic to a point it restricts oil flow to the tensioner which results in loose chains and erratic valve timing.
