Broken Hose (vacuum or water)

Hi List,
I recently acquired a 82 DMC-12 5-speed that was sitting in storage 
for ten odd years. While in storage there it got a case of rat 
infestion. which brings me to my question:

There is a (more or less) clear hose running under the dash near the 
steering wheel that has been chewed through and is hanging. Any ideas 
as to what this hose belongs to or does? I can't find the other end.
