Walter, Not a superstition; The back issue is absolutely correct. Most "run of the mill" repair facilities are set up to service standard steel wheel configurations. Lug nut tightening torque that is in excess of the manufactures spec.'s on steel wheels may not be critical except for the problem of not being able to remove a wheel in the event of a flat. In the case of the DeLorean, or any car that uses light alloy rims, serious damage can be inflicted on the wheels and attaching components when an air tool is used to tighten the lug nuts. We often need to use a breaker bar with a 4' length of pipe attached to remove lug nuts on "D's" arriving for service. The factory calls for 60 ft. lb.. of torque, therefore you should always request that to a service facility not to use an air tool when replacing wheel lug nuts.
