I trust that every one will not mind that I use this point in the current political
discussion to comment "AGAIN" about DMC-12 prices..........
The claptrap from DOA no-with-standing, No matter what the current trend in
DMC-12 prices, is entirely at the feet of all current owners. The laws of supply and demand
in some cases don't impact a thing that can be bought and sold. As I have said many times
"We the owners of the DMC-12 are the sole determinant of the price" after all we control the entire supply. The price is what ever we want it to be. Can any one argue that "if" on any given day
any one wanting to buy a DMC-12 is informed by any given owner ...."My best bottom price is $31, 386.12" that the price would be anything else.....No of course not.
Take Diamonds (My family jewelry business for over 70 years as an example) for instance...Does any one really believe that they are so rear that just a few grams should cost thousands? Of course not! Diamonds are in plentifully supply, by the ton! The are actually grinding up gems to use in industry, the reason the price has remained high is that just a small hand full of mine owners have total control over the distribution and there fore the
price. There have been a few TV shows focused on this that pop up several times a year.
The real problem regarding DMC-12 prices is the changing nature of ownership. It's obvious
that there are now many people buying DMC-12's that have no Idea what is involved in owning a true sports/Fun car and secondly can't afford to marinating it. After the "WOW" effect wears off
they want their money back and sell at the first chance, often at less than they paid.
Simply put "if the current Delorean owners want the value to be what the general public thinks it should be, then they (all of you low ball types - no offense intended) just have to get with the program and demand $30K+ for your D's) Mine is for sale to the first offer of $49.9K Just bring a certified check or cash! and it's yours-
In closing I point out that to date not a single person that I have spoken to on the street, who
has approached me about my D, has ever thought it was worth less than $50K and many
place the value nearer 100K$. So it's not the general public that is driving the DMC-12 price, it's us the current owners.
