Ralph, Your mechanic is slightly misinformed. He is correct when he states that the Volvo version of this engine had premature cam failure. In late 1980 the engine manufacturing plant changed the camshafts to hardened steel replacements. All DeLoreans are fitted with the upgraded cams which should last at least 150K miles. I have very serious doubts that your cams are worn unless the engine was run without oil for an extended period of time. Our 260K mile "D" has the original cams. Which control arm is bent?
