Cliff, I have had one set of wheels professionally re-stove enamelled..that is, get tyres stripped off, shot blast off old paint, prime, fill pits with stopper / filler, rub down, undercoat, rub down, LIGHT grey paint finish, then clear lacquer, have tyres re-fitted, wheels re-balanced ( making sure they use the stick on weights fitted inside the wheel) hey presto..done..the car looked 100% better..all done by my local jobbing stove enameller..cost about £35 each..the fellow did say they were the most difficult set of wheels he had ever worked on..because of the many alloy "spokes" and the closeness of them to each other. My next set I used a chemical paint stripper, then had the wheels professionally metal polished.(should have cost about £50 each).they look like chrome but go very dull/patchy if they get wet or damp..they need constant polishing to look good..I have thought of having them clear lacquered but am still content to give them a quick metal polish.
