There are special lowering kits available from, I think PJ Grady and/or Delorean One. I might be wrong here... I'm kinda muddied with cold medicine. Anyway, no don't just chop the springs... you'll completely screw up the handling of the car because the geometry of the suspension will be thrown WAY off. You may also make it un-alignable (is that a word?). The suspension geometry on the Delorean is really well designed... but those tall springs do throw it a little.
