That stud finder will not work. It doesn't look for nails or anything in that matter. It looks for spaces behind a wall. If there is a space it doesn't do anything, then when you move it over something (stud) it starts to beep. I don't think it will work on stainless panels. I would start by removing the panels. That way you could see what they look like from the other side. If you see any imperfections or holes you can be almost certain that there is bondo under the paint.
