[DML] Armrest Removal

I've just started work on repairing the Window Regulator's and
alignment on my Delorean, but am completely confused as to how to
proceed. :(

I was able to successfully remove the upper trim panel on the door. 
That part was quite easy, so I thought that removing the lower assembly
shouldn't be too bad, either. The instructions in the workshop manual
say that you simply unscrew the mount bracket on the top, break loose
the small plastic clamps on the bottom, unscrew the pull strap bracket
with a long philips screwdriver, and pull the thing off.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, that long Philips screwdriver
would need by about a foot long, as the bracket looks like it is
extremely difficult to get too without having the armrest off (which,
of course, is impossible without already having removed the pull
handle:).

Anyway, suffice it to say, I am perplexed. Is there any easier way to
go about removing this thing, as I can't imagine how you could every
reattach the handle the way the book describes?
