No ! No! No!, You do not have to remove the intake manifold to adjust the timing. The distributor lock nut is adjacent to intake tube # 4 and spark plug # 4.You will need a long open end wrench to loosen the nut. BTW: Are you sure you are referencing the correct plug and pulley notch when taking your reading. Eight degrees is almost outside of the operational range of the engine. As a matter of fact the DeLorean ignition timing is so precise that the factory setting can virtually be left unchanged for the life of the car.
