When I first got my D it was VERY hard to insert the key, thanks to the ball-bearing. I ended up using WD-40 or some other lubricant what helped substantially. I know you're not supposed to use liquids in locks, but I think it's only because it leaves residue on the key. I don't think graphite would have done the trick. Afterwards I repeatedly inserted/removed the key, wiping it clean each time until it didn't come out dirty any more.
