I usually have problems with the passenger side door lock when I have had a
passenger (they seem to be afraid to close the door all the way). If the
door is not latched all the way, the lock will only go about half way (and stay
there). I then have to crawl in, lean over the console, and rock the lock
back to the "unlock" position. after opening and reclosing the door again,
everything is then OK. I would think that the same would occure of the
door alignment os off.

Subject: [DML] Broken Door Lock?
Hi-
I have been trouble shooting my newly purchased '81 DeLorean for the past
few days, and happily, I have very few troubles to shoot.
The most noticeable problem I have encountered thus far is the door lock on
the passenger side.
I noticed a 'stiffness' to the locking mechanisms when I purchased the car,
but this did not seem too extraordinary for an 18 year old vehicle. I
applied WD 40 to the 4 locking mechanisms I could get to (front and back
latches of each door), which helped with the overall stiffness, but the
front latch on the passenger side works only sporadically. I can never tell
when the lock is actually going to catch (the Lock Doors light has been
helpful here) but more often than not, the door won't unlock.
Does this sound like a mechanical problem, or an electrical one? I believe
the alignment of the doors is very good, if not perfect, but what's the best
way to tell if this is what is interfering with the lock?
Is a broken door lock something that is fairly easily fixed or replaced?
If anyone has had a similar problem and has solved it, please drop me a
line.
Thanks,
Bob
