I recently lost refrigerant and after having a "sniffer" check of my system,
leakage was noted in the front of the car at the condenser unit. The unit
had been dinged on the lower left edge from curb contact or something similar.

As I removed the UPPER refrigerant line from the unit, the female portion of
the fitting unsrewed far too easily, only slightly better than hand tight.
After removal, I discovered an oily area on the upper left front corner of
the condenser where the fitting is. Upon testing the condenser unit out of
the car, it was found to not have any leaks. The leakage had to have been
from the upper fitting which may have never been properly tightened and
after this many years, the O-ring dried out.
