In any case, your VIN was among the last '81 models built. November '81 builds started at about #6000 and went to something a little over #7000. The '82 models started at about #10000 in December '81. There were a LOT less '82's built than '81's, and even fewer '83's. The company went into receivership in February 1982 and the factory was closed in October 1982. It's my understanding that the '83's were actually '82 models (about 1000 I think) that were still at the factory when it was seized and shut down by the British government. These 82's were later titled as '83's. I believe there were a few that were titled as even later models. BTW, the first '81's were prematurely rushed to market under pressure from the press and JZD. Unfortunately these early models were fraught with problems. That's why the QAC's were established in the first place. The first 81's were built in December 1980. By November 1981 most of the early production problems had been corrected so consider yourself fortunate to have a "later" model. Ed Thompson (#6419 since 1982)
