Hi, I own a '81 DeLorean and I'm having some recent problems with the performance of the engine. When I cold-start the engine, it starts in one go, but then I have to let it run for about a minute or two to let it become stable. When I start driving with it, the engine has full performance and really kicks ass. But when the engine has been running for about 10 minutes or so, there is a dramatic drop in power; suddenly the engine won't do more than 4000 RPM; and then it gets worse by the minute. Last week I had to drive home (14 Km) with a maximum of 1800 RPM (Which requires serious driving skills imho). I think it has something to do with the engine heating up and the fuel/air mixture or something with the injection system.. The strange thing is my Dad drove it for about 100 Km on the highway without any problems whatsoever. As far as I know it doesn't have any modifications like a turbo or such. Any suggestions?
