Efren Hicks is a 16 year old who recently acquired a DeLorean and wants to "Live the Dream" like the rest of us. The car is a 1983, that the previous owner was in the process of restoring. A lot of things are part way done, such as the facias. (The rear is completely re-done, but the front is badly sunburned and warped.) The interior has been almost completely removed, and many replacement parts are in boxes (headliners, new binnacle, etc.) I have seen the car and it appears to be 90-95% complete.
But the main trouble is the transmission (5-speed, manual). It's not broken; it's not there. At all.
The story is that the transmission was sent out to be rebuilt. While it was at the shop, the shop owner declared bankruptcy and the contents of the shop (including the transmission in question) were seized as assets. Where this transmission is now, no one seems to know.
What Efren needs, then, is a complete 5-speed transmission. DMC Houston appears to have one in stock, but it would be over $3,000, with tax and shipping. This is a budget buster for a 16 year old. So, if there are any of you with parts cars that would be willing to part with a 5-speed transmission for a price more in line with Efren's budget, please contact him: marty_mcflyjr@xxxx
