I would say you don't need a alternator. you should consider getting a (cap) go to your local stereo shop and tell them you need a high output cap for your amp buy getting this item it will take the the strain off your alternator.... just to be on the safe side get a alternator tester that can read how many amps the car pulls when all components are turned on with the car running at a idle. ((((((note)))))(play your stereo while test is being done radio should be on and vol should be turned up at lest half way. this will make your amplifier pull its max amps)))... next step is to compare what the car needs to run all components ( the test) then look at the alternator specs and see how many amps that the alt can put out max. for instance car needs ----- 80 amps total drain alternator out put ---- 85 amps this would work now if your car needs car needs --- 80 amps and the alt is only putting out 75 amps then yes you need a bigger alternator in short if the alt output is grater than the cars needs you will just need a cap they run 80$ to 250.$ if you need a alt i would still suggest putting a cap on your amp it will take the strain off the alternator. just a note when doing the alternator test for amperage the reading will jump up & down on your meter aprox.. 5 to 15 amps do to your radio amp. is on and playing music. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address to moderator@xxxx

I think I need to replace my alternator. I need more power to run the amp for my stereo. I keep seeing the voltage meter on the car drop when the lights are on and I'm idling. Do I need to get a higher output alternator? If I do, which one should I get? What fits? What amperage should I replace it with? Can someone help me please? ---Dan ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FreeShop is the #1 place for free and trial offers and great deals!
