The early alternators are inadequate to operate all the accessories on the car. The later ones are adequate, but not by much. Unfortunately, replacement alternators that fit properly are hard to come by these days. As far as I know all the later-model original alternators are used up. There is a GM alternator that supposedly works also, but I don't know the specifics, nor whether it itself is still available. My suggestion would be to take your existing alternator to one of those shops that makes the giant stereos for low riders, and have them rewind it. They can make just about any alternator put out as much power as you want. Then, you don't have to worry about fitting mounting brackets, belts, etc. that you would with a replacement. For a more or less stock DMC-12, 100 amps should be more than enough. If you've got a whopper stereo, then, you should know how much you need for that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address to moderator@xxxx
