I just got my D about 2 months ago and it had the same problem and the master clutch cylinder was probably leaking on the drivers side carpet for a long, long time from the look of things. It was so bad that I was getting a rash everytime I worked on the car. I used "Citra-Solv" cleaner and degreaser (Chempoint Products 800-343-6588). Worked really well and smells great. I had the carpets cleaned professionally but ended up ripping them out and replacing them (both bottom and side). Unfortunately, all painted metal that was sitting in the clutch fluid seems to be totally stripped of paint!
